This year’s Valentine Day is like double of the romance to me; it falls on the 15th day of the first month in Lunar Calendar, which is the Lantern Festival for Chinese. Lantern Festival has been considered as Chinese Valentine’s Day. In the old time, single ladies rarely got to leave their homes. Lantern Festival was one of the very few festivals that they would go out for social activities – people would go to temples with lanterns, and solved the riddles on the lanterns – which provided opportunities for singles to meet their potential mates.
There are so many love stories or beliefs in Chinese myths. The one I particularly find interesting is about the Red String of Fate. We believe the old lunar matchmaker god ties the red string on our finger or wrist, and will tie the other end on our lover’s finger. I once read a story about a pair of lovers couldn’t be together; they tied a red string tightly on their wrists before committing suicide. In their next lives, they found each other by matching the mark of red string on their wrists.
I am very pleased that my dear friend Xiaj created several props of Red String of Fate as the rare items for L’accessoires Timeless Romance Gacha event; they are very cute, sweet and romantic. I also want to thank my other dear friend Ewan to pose with me so that I can have my own Red String of Fate story. I wish every one of you have a very happy and sweet Valentine’s Day with your loved one.
